Phew, says the Bear!

We got a SMS form Mijnherr Van Beenie saying that all further Kelvstocks had been cancelled by order of Lewisham Council (Stalinists to a man!), but this very morning we've received the wonderful news that Kelvstock is back on, in the Conservatory for the time being until licensing paperwork, bribes to Councillors etc have been sorted out. Thank goodness for that!

Do get along to Kelvstock and support a really wonderfull effort by the Big Guy - support local music. Dance to Hand Hat, swoon at Redgrass' harmonies, get scared by the jook's death blues, drink beer, have a great time........

The indestructable Kelvin Van Beenie continues the Kelvstock theme with a weekly series of mini-festivals at the Hobgoblin, New Cross Gate, this Summer. We are delighted to announce the signing of veteran bluesman Rod jook Jones to Lazy Bear. The Bear is really pleased with this one, especially as, for a limited introductory period only, jook's "The Floods Of New Orleans"  album is available at CD quality completely free to download.

Yo Bear fans

What an enormous pleasure it is to announce that our second signing is the excellent Redgrass Collective, one of the Bear's favourite live acts. A superb alt. bluegrass act, with really tight four part harmonies as standard, and great original songs, together with some very carefully-selected and unusual cover versions of classic songs.

This is really hot news because Redgrass are a relatively new band, and only emerged from their first recording session last weekend. But "Strike while the iron is hot" is one of the Bear's mottos, because if you don't, chances are, someone else will, that's what the Bear says! So - without any apology, some tracks really hot off the recording desk will be up on the Redgrass page soon. Check it out, for a really good modern take on a classic bluegrass feel combined with an understated instumentation, allowing the harmonies to come right to the fore.

Redgrass rehearse harder than any band the Bear has ever known, and it makes the Lazy Bear slighty weepy just to think about the sheer work that goes into every Redgrass song. End result, though - end result.....

We may have just begun, but what a good beginning it has been - following discussions during their recent short, but highly successful, tour of London, the Lazy Bear is proud to announce that the first international signing is the fabulous Bullfrog Brown, of Tartu, Estonia. We are proud to have such a talented  act on the label so early on. They have four outstanding CDs on offer, including the brand new, just-released Mother River Delta. If you want  a brand new, totaly original take on the delta blues, with great songwriting and surreal-ish lyrics, then the Bullfrogs are your boys. Great guitar playing, smoky vocals and catchy tunes all come as standard.
